Best Areas to Live in Da Nang for Expats

Updated 7 November 2026

The best areas to live in Da Nang for expats depend on what your normal weekday looks like. Choose the beach side (An Thuong, My Khe, the rest of Son Tra) if you want the sea, cafés and other foreigners within walking distance. Choose Hai Chau, the city centre, if you work in town or want offices, hospitals and the river close by. Look further out, to Ngu Hanh Son, Cam Le or Lien Chieu, if space and a lower rent matter more than being central.

Choose by your daily routine

Write down an ordinary weekday: where you work, where you eat, how you exercise, and where you go in the evening. Then use the table to see which areas keep those places close.

Compare beachside and city-center lifestyles

Beachside living means the sea is part of every day. Mornings start early on the sand, and many cafés, gyms and coworking spaces aimed at foreigners sit within a few blocks of the beach. The trade-offs are weekend crowds, more construction, and salt air that wears out air conditioners and metal fittings faster.

City centre living in Hai Chau puts you near the Han River, the Dragon Bridge, markets, banks, hospitals and government offices. It suits people with a fixed workplace or those who like a city rhythm. The beach is still a short ride across the river.

An Thuong, My Khe, Son Tra and Hai Chau

  • [An Thuong](/en/rent/an-thuong): a small grid of streets behind My Khe beach where many foreigners settle first. Western cafés, coworking and mini-marts are close together. Mostly studios and one-bedroom apartments.
  • [My Khe](/en/rent/my-khe): the long city beach and the streets along it. Sea-view towers sit a short walk from the sand. Being a few streets back can be quieter and cheaper than the seafront.
  • [Son Tra](/en/rent/son-tra): the wider area from the Han River to the forested Son Tra peninsula. Away from the beachfront the streets are local and calm, and houses often give more space for the price.
  • [Hai Chau](/en/rent/hai-chau): Da Nang's centre on the west bank of the river, close to Han Market and the main offices and hospitals.

Other areas in the table. Phuoc My is the beachfront strip north of My Khe with many high-rise apartment buildings. Ngu Hanh Son runs south along the coast past the Marble Mountains, with newer villa neighbourhoods. Thanh Khe is a busy residential area west of the centre. Cam Le is inland and residential, near the airport. Lien Chieu wraps around the northern bay towards the Hai Van Pass.

A note on names: since 1 July 2025 Da Nang has merged with the former Quang Nam province and no longer has districts; wards were merged and renamed (National Assembly Resolution 202/2025/QH15). These area names are still used every day, but leases and official forms use the new ward names, so ask for the current address of any home you consider.

Match areas to remote workers and families

Remote workers usually care about three things: a reliable internet connection at home, a quiet room for calls, and a choice of places to work outside. An Thuong and the streets around My Khe give the most choice on foot. Test the connection during a viewing, and ask whether the building has a backup for power cuts.

Families tend to need more bedrooms, a safe place to walk, and a short school run. Ngu Hanh Son and parts of Son Tra offer larger apartments and houses. Plan the route to school before you choose the home, not after.

Visit at different times of day

An area can feel completely different at 8 am, 2 pm and 10 pm. Before you sign, try to visit your shortlisted streets at least twice:

  • Morning: traffic on your route to work or school, and the noise from markets or construction.
  • Midday: heat, shade, and whether you would actually walk to the shops.
  • Evening and weekend: bars, karaoke and street life. Stand outside the building for ten minutes and listen.

Shortlist your viewing locations

  1. Pick two areas from the routine table.
  2. In each area, choose two or three streets you would be happy to live on.
  3. Filter our listings to those areas and compare homes with the same lease length.
  4. Book viewings in the same area on the same day, so the comparison is fair.

FAQs

Which area suits remote workers?

An Thuong and the streets near My Khe, because cafés and coworking spaces are within walking distance. Hai Chau works well too if you prefer a fixed coworking desk and city services close by.

Should I choose the beach or city center?

Choose the beach if you will use it most days. Choose the centre if your work, school or regular appointments are there. Many people start near the beach and move later once they know their routine.

How can I compare noise before renting?

Visit at night and on a weekend, stand outside the building, and ask neighbours or the building guard about construction nearby. Inside, close the windows and listen in the bedroom.
